Frequently Asked Questions
-
Flat feather mounting is the art of laying feathers from a bird out into a sleeker design. We individually lay and adhere each feather to a mat into an anatomical lay out of the bird. This is another form of the art of taxidermy to preserve your harvest.
-
We understand that birds are not always pristine. Torn feathers from shots can add character, but it’s not for everyone. Consider the shape of your bird’s feathers when picking a mount. We are more than happy to examine the bird during the ordering process to help you choose the best mount.
-
We strive to use one bird per mount. Different environmental factors can change the color tones in feathers, and mixing feathers of the same species can make your mount look inconsistent.
-
We can mount any migratory bird within the Anatidae family, which covers ducks, geese, and swans. Non-migratory birds include pheasant, quail, and turkey. We abide by all state and federal laws, including the state laws in which the bird was harvested. Not sure if your bird falls in these categories? Reach out, and we will confirm.
-
Turnaround time can vary depending on the season and current workload. Most mounts are completed within several weeks after the bird is received. You will be notified when your mount is finished and ready for pickup or shipping.

Minor damage such as shot holes or missing feathers is common and often does not prevent a mount from being created. In some cases, we may recommend a different mount style depending on the feather condition.
